  • History: Lake Waubesa is supposed to have originally been a part of the Wisconsin River Valley before rock and silt separated it into it's form at the end of the most recent ice age. The lake gets it's name from the Chippewa word for swan, one of the native birds of Lake Waubesa. Non-indigenous settlers became forming the Mcfarland Community on the north bank of the river just prior to the 1900s.

    Upper Mud Lake, a section of the upper region of Lake Waubesa, is known to be an ideal bird-watching perch.
