Located Between Spokane and Coeur D’Alene

Newman Lake is a calm and clear expanse in the mountainous region of Eastern Washington. Located 15 miles between Spokane and Coeur D’ Alene, Idaho, the lake is a short drive from shopping, dining, and entertainment.

Spokane includes the Spokane International Airport, St. Lukes Hospital, and Gonzaga University.

Clear Waters and Blue Skies

Newman Lake is a natural body of water covering 1,400 acres. It has 10 miles of shoreline which are densely lined with pines and firs. The waters are 19 feet deep on average but can be as deep as 30 feet.

A Little Bit of History

In the early days of Newman Lake, it was a summertime settlement for Indians. The area was plentiful with deer, grouse, rabbits, wild berries, and roots.

Legend has it that a splintered pine tree killed one of the Indians, and they have since thought the place was inhabited by evil. The Indians did not stay the night there again. By the 1880s, settlers were building homesteads around the lake.

Fun on the Water

There are many ways to have fun on Newman Lake, whether that means relaxing on the shore or staying busy on the water.

Some of its popular activities are boating, kayaking, water skiing, fishing, and swimming. Largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, rainbow trout, brown trout, and perch can be caught from the lake.

Its abundance of wildlife creates excellent opportunities for nature watching. McKenzie Conservation Area features several hiking trails and a grassy area by the water.

Coeur D’Alene Lake is just 15 miles east of Newman Lake in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho. This is the second-largest lake in Idaho and is one of its most prized escapes.
