About Lake Murray

Lake Murray is a popular lake near Columbia, SC. Completed in 1930 by the damming of the Saluda River, Lake Murray has approximately 500 miles of shoreline and a maximum depth of 200 feet. At the time of its creation the Saluda Dam was the largest earthen dam in the world, spanning 1.5 miles and reaching a height of 220 feet.

Lake Murray is known as a fishing hotspot, especially when it comes to largemouth bass, small mouth bass, bream and crappie. The lake is consistently voted as one of the 100 Best Bass Lakes in the nation and has also been voted in the top 10 places to boat and live. Other popular activities on the lake include, boating, skiing, sailing, canoeing, and kayaking.

Even though the lake is used to produce power, the water level is very consistent throughout the year, with a variation of only four feet between the summer and winter seasons.

Columbia, only minutes away, hosts a variety of attractions and is home to one of the lowest costs of living in the nation. The city is home to the South Carolina Gamecocks, highly rated Riverbanks Zoo, Broadway shows, concerts, and more.

Lake Murray provides a great blend of lake living with the conveniences of city living only minutes away!
