About Lebanon Reservoir

Lebanon Reservoir is in Madison County near the Village of Hamilton. It was created as one of the reservoirs to supply water to the Erie Canal.

Lebanon Reservoir is a smaller water body, covering only 96 acres with a little over two miles of shoreline. It is surprisingly deep, with a maximum depth of 45 feet.

Lebanon Reservoir is only an hour away from the city of Syracuse, New York.

Lebanon reservoir supports a two-story fishery with rainbow trout being the main cold water game fish and largemouth bass the main warm-water species.

Trout are usually targeted shortly after stocking in the spring and during the winter months by ice fishing. Ice fishing for panfish like bluegills and yellow perch is also popular on the lake.

The largemouth bass is abundant, with fish in the 12 to 14-inch range being standard.

You can use small boats to explore and fish on Lebanon Reservoir. Fishing from the shore is also a great option.

The Lebanon State Forest lies south of Lebanon Reservoir and spans 779 acres of central New York state. Primitive camping and hiking are some of the more popular activities enjoyed inside this lush woodland.

Next to Lebanon State Forest is Earlville State Forest. This state forest spans 634 acres and provides camping, fishing, hunting/trapping, snowmobiling, and wildlife viewing.

What makes Lebanon Reservoir unique is its proximity to the Finger Lakes. The Finger Lakes are eleven long, narrow lakes near the shore of Lake Ontario.

A large tourism draw for the Finger Lakes region is its premier wineries. Named "the world's most beautiful wine region," readers of Budget Travel magazine, there are many outstanding, world-class Finger Lakes wineries located in the hills along Keuka Lake. Many different wine tours are offered throughout the area, and it is the perfect way to spend a warm summer afternoon.

Due to the high volume of tourism in this area garners, there is plenty of outdoor recreation, entertainment, events, wineries, restaurants, museums, and shopping for you to enjoy.

You can visit the Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Site, enjoy the local events, see Hammondsport, or jump from lake to lake in the region. This community has plenty to do for everyone.

The Rosamond Gifford Zoo is home to more than 700 animals on 43 acres. Some of the more popular animals include Asian elephants, Humboldt penguins, and Amur tigers. It is a great place to take a romantic walk through the zoo.
