Mooselookmeguntic Lake is a large body of water straddling Franklin and Oxford counties in Maine. This recreational gem is the most famous lake of the Rangeley Lakes Region, composed of five other lakes.

The town of Rangeley is home to restaurants, stores, and other small-town conveniences. Maine's major city of Portland is just over 100 miles away with facilities like Portland International Jetport or Maine Medical Center.

Fourth-Largest Body of Water in the State

With a surface area of 16,300 acres, Mooselookmeguntic Lake is the fourth-largest lake in Maine. This massive body of water boasts nearly 60 miles of shoreline.

The lake's unique name came from the Abanaki Native American Tribe word, meaning "moose feeding among the trees." It suits the lake considering the significant population of moose here. You will often see them grazing the water's edge early morning or late afternoon. The large, elegant animals are a treat to see.
