Horseshoe Pond shares waters with its connecting lakes, Ebennee Pond and East Lake. The shoreline is populated with few houses and an abundance of trees.

This rural environment is adored for peaceful boating and fishing. Bass and trout are the lake’s main attractions, but various other fish can be caught here.

Schoodic Lake is a great expanse of water just east of Horseshoe Pond. Knight’s Landing on the west shore of the lake is a public access point. The lake is known for scenic views, clear waters, and ample sportfish.

Fun in the Highlands

As the highest peak in Maine, Mount Katahdin is viewable from much of the Highlands Region. In Georgia, the Appalachian Trail winds up the United States until its end at Mount Katadin’s Peak.

Gulf Hagas is another must-see location; the three-mile gorge is a National Natural Landmark, plummeting as deep as 400 feet. The gorge is also known as “The Grand Canyon of Maine.” An eight-mile trail loops the gorge, featuring swimming holes, waterfalls, and unique foliage along the way.

Anywhere you are in this portion of Maine, snowmobile trails are nearby. The Maine Snowmobile Association manages thousands of trails about the state.
