Panfish, largemouth bass and northern pike are commonly caught in this lake. With a maximum depth of five feet, boating is not possible in Mud Lake, but neighboring Fish Lake does have a public boat landing.

The Mud Lake Wildlife Area offers days of fun for families, anglers, and hunters alike. Trapping, rifles, slugs, pistols, or muzzleloaders are prohibited for hunting all legal game and predator species within the Mud Lake Wildlife Area, but archery is allowed.
