South Holston Lake is about a 30-minute drive from Bristol, Virginia, and is about an hour from HMG General Hospital and the Tri-Cities Airport.

On the South fork of the Holston River in Northeast Tennessee on the Western edge of the Appalachian Mountains, lies the South Holston Lake. It borders Sullivan and Washington counties and extends 24 miles northeastward into Southwestern Virginia.
South Holston Lake was completed in 1950 and covers 7580 acres. 60% of the 168 miles of shoreline is bordered by the Cherokee National Forest. The max depth is 245 feet.
