Beaver Lake is around an hour from Watertown, New York, which sits on Lake Ontario's shore. If you are looking for a more extended road trip, New York City is just over five hours from Beaver Lake. Beaver Lake permits motorized boating activity as well as traditional canoe/kayak and sailing alternatives. In the past, several seaplanes have also used Beaver Lake as a landing ground.

One of the main reasons this area is loved so much is the Independence River Wild Forest that sprawls 78,600 acres in northern New York. This forest is a lovely place for recreation and horseback riding, paddling, boating, hiking, camping, fishing, hunting/trapping, biking, snowmobiling, skiing, bird-watching wildlife viewing. There are plenty of different trails to choose from that are accessible to people of all skill levels.

Watson's East Triangle Wild Forest, Five Ponds Wilderness, Ha-De-Ron-Dah Wilderness, Fulton Chain, and Pigeon Lake Wilderness are just a few of the other surrounding forests that you can easily explore while living on Beaver Lake.

Two popular camps call Beaver Lake their homes. Beaver Camp and Camp Unirondack are two popular outdoor camps that attract dozens of youth in the summer.
