Sand Lake is only 14 miles from the Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital, and the Duluth International Airport is 63 miles away. Fred’s is an excellent grocery shopping choice; it's only 10 miles away. As a bonus, you are only 12 miles away from Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

Lake Days

Sand Lake is 118 acres and offers endless things to do under the sun, and when it comes to fishing, you are sure to find Walleye, Northern pike, and Rock bass. You can swim, canoe, kayak, paddleboard, and tubing on for water-based activities. Finally, if you are more of a land person, you can have a lovely stroll around the perimeter of the lake or have a picnic with the family.

Around the Town

Now, suppose you get hungry while staying in the Warba area. In that case, these spots are a must: Nopo Coffee Co, Forest Lake Restaurant, Pokegama Grill, Pasties Plus, Unwined Up North. Once you have had your fill, you can see some sights the town offers: Judy Garland Museum, Iron Range Tourism Bureau, Children's Discovery Museum, Suomi Hills, Gunn Park. All within 55 minutes from the lake.

Visit Grand Rapids

If you’re interested in learning the history of logging in this part of the state, head down to the Forest History Center. You can see a recreation of a white pine logging camp from 1900, listen to stories from loggers and forest service patrolmen from different eras, or get a bird’s eye view from a 100-foot fire tower. Follow the yellow brick road to the Judy Garland Museum, where you can get a glimpse at the world’s largest Judy Garland and Wizard of Oz museum! Here, you'll find artifacts from Judy's life and movies, like the world-famous ruby-red slippers. If you’re getting hungry, you can check out the great restaurants that Grand Rapids has to offer, like Mitu Srilankan and Indian Cuisine, Donkey Taqueria, and Heritage Restaurant.
