Over 4,000 Acres of Water

Deer Lake’s crystal-clear waters cover 4,300 acres and have an average water clarity level of 16 feet. It is five miles long and one and a half miles wide.

The lake has no natural inlets, so its water comes from rainfall, natural springs, and runoff.

Due to the high amounts of minerals in the water, the lake puts off different blue shades depending on the angle of sunlight. This nicknames it the “Lake of Changing Colors.”

All sorts of watercraft travel the waters of Deer Lake, including pontoons, wave runners, speed boats, bass boats, and kayaks.

Home to 25 islands, boaters enjoy going from island-to-island where people picnic, swim, and hang out.

The 25-acre Bear Island is a nature management area where residents can take a stroll and spot various wildlife like birds, eagles, loons, otters, and herons.

Anglers make catches of muskie, largemouth bass, walleye, and northern pike. A public boat ramp is on the southwestern shore.

Visitors can choose from several lakeside resorts. When winter comes around, ice fishing, ice skating, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing begin.
