Fish Lake is located near the village of Marcellus, just south of Kalamazoo. Kalamazoo is the closest metropolitan city, and it is only 32 miles north of the lake.
The closest airport is the Kalamazoo/Battlecreek International Airport, only 34 miles away. The nearest hospital is the Bronson Lakeview Hospital which is only 16 miles away.
The lake is 340 acres in size, meaning that boating, fishing, swimming, and other water-based activities are perfectly doable. Many of the properties on the lake have docks for your watercraft, and there is even a boat launch.
The lake is also connected to the neighboring Finch and Saddlebag Lakes, so you can also take your adventure to other waters. Anglers should be on the lookout for bluegill, largemouth bass, walleye, and yellow perch.
Along the eastern edge of the lake is a restaurant known as The Rock At Big Fish Lake, which has glowing reviews, beautiful decor, and gorgeous food.
Other great eateries include Amy’s Fabulous Diner in the south, and Hungry Howie Pizza and Laura's Little Burger Joint in the north. The Heddon Museum, which features classic cars and fishing memorabilia, is also nearby.
Another great local attraction is the Pioneer Log Cabin Museum, where you can see how the great American pioneers lived and survived on the frontier, as well as displays from the first World War and other moments of history.
Kalamazoo makes for a great day trip, with plenty of things to do indoors and out!
The Kalamazoo Nature Center spans 1,100 acres with an 11-acre arboretum, 11 nature trails, and the Delano Pioneer Homestead. The Interpretive Center features its award-winning "Nature Up Close" hall, interactive exhibits, three-story tropical rainforest, a bug house, and seasonal butterfly and hummingbird garden.
The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts features more than 5,000 works of fine art in its permanent collection for visitors to enjoy. It also has touring and collective exhibitions in 10 galleries, offers four art classes at the Kirk Newman Art School and highlights local artists in the KIA Gallery Shop.
The Air Zoo Aerospace & Science Museum has been voted the "Best Place to Take Out-of-Towners" and "Best Place to Spend a Day with Your Family," making it a must-see. It features more than 100 air and space artifacts, rides, Full-Motion Flight Simulators, a theater, historical exhibits, and educational activities.
After a long day of exploration, be sure to enjoy a meal at one of the many delicious restaurants in the city. Highly-rated options include Crow's Nest, The Studio Grill, Kalamazoo Beer Exchange, Erbelli's Gourmet Pizza, and Bell's Eccentric Cafe.
Fish lake is large in size and large in opportunity. There is no end to the fun things to do on and around the lake, and it is super easy to take a trip up to Kalamazoo for more fun.
