About Great Pond

Lake of Downeast Maine

Great Pond is part of a stunning set of lakes in Downeast Maine, known as the Belgrade Chain.

Waterville is just east of the lake for stores, restaurants, Colby College, or LaFleur Airport. Augusta offers similar conveniences, including Target, VA Maine Healthcare, and the Augusta State Airport.

The Largest of the Chain

Encompassing 8,500 acres, Great Pond is the largest lake in the chain. Its populations of brook trout, brown trout, landlocked salmon, white perch, and pickerel make it popular among anglers.

Other recreational activities like boating, skiing, kayaking, canoeing, or swimming are favored as well.

While the waters can be an active environment, its tree-lined shore is the perfect place to relax.

When the snow falls, ice skating, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing are popular in the Belgrade Lakes area.

Fun Off the Water

Belgrade Lakes Greens and Ground is an award-winning golf facility; the public course matches a fine country club's luxury. From the greens, golfers get panoramic views of the lakes.

"The Mountain" Trailhead is on the northwestern end of the lake for those who like to explore. Your hike will include sights of woods, water, and wildlife. The French Mountain Trail above Long Pond will take you to a much higher summit.

For the foodies, the town of Belgrade Lakes is home to Sunset Grill, Belgrade Lakes Seafood, or Hello Good Pie.

A Delightful Escape

If you are looking for a weekend escape, family home, or place to retire, Great Pond can be the perfect place for you.
