About Prince Lake

DuPage County, Illinois

Prince Lake is a petite lake in the Downers Grove, Illinois Park District just west of Chicago.

The pond is 10 minutes from Good Samaritan Hospital and 40 minutes from the Chicago Midway International Airport. It is within five minutes from a Jewel-Osco grocery store, and there are numerous public and private schools in the area.

The pond was known as Grove Lake when it was first constructed in 1892. In its early days, it was used for ice skating in the winter, and today, children accumulate here to play hockey.

In the summer, anglers can fish from the lakeshore and should expect to catch bluegill.

Sporting and Outdoors

The Downers Grove Golf Club, not far from the lake is a nine-hole golf course with a 300-yard, 24-station driving range as well as a large practice putting green and sand trap chipping area. It also includes a certified Audubon cooperative sanctuary.

The Lyman Woods Nature Center boasts a whopping 150 acres of eloquently diverse plant life, some of which is extremely rare and includes a 19-acre oak forest that has remained undisturbed since the early 19th century.

Park District Amenities

The Butterfield Park District Recreation and Aquatic Center are exclusive to park district residents and includes a six-lane competition pool, leisurely pool, zero-depth pool, dining area, waterslide, as well as a poolside cafe.

Lots of pools aren’t all the park district has to offer. It continues to be the host of many entertaining events. One of these is the Summer Concert Series, a series of free concerts featuring rock, country, blues, and oldies musicians in Fishel Park. Food and beverages are also available at the event.

The district’s Lincoln Center is a place for residents above the age of 55 to congregate and play games such as mahjong and dominoes.

Discover Chicago

Since the park district is near Chicago, its residents have numerous entertainment opportunities seemingly in their backyards.

At the Navy Pier, visitors can enjoy a myriad of rides. When at the top of the renowned Ferris wheel, riders have a breathtaking view of Lake Michigan and the Chicago cityscape.

Shoppers can explore many of the retailers located on the pier and foodies can try the multitude of eateries in the area.

There is a museum for everyone in Chicago including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Field Museum, and the Museum of Science and Industry.

At Millennium Park, visitors can visit the theater, go ice skating and view the famous Chicago “Bean.”
