Lake Richard B. Russell, also known as Lake Russell, is on the Georgia-South Carolina state line. It is located about an hour and forty minutes from Greenville, South Carolina, and two and a half hours from Atlanta, Georgia.

This 26,650-acre lake was created in 1985 by the US Army Corps of Engineers to provide flood control from the Savannah River.

Richard B. Russell State Park offers lake residents a myriad of outdoor activities to enjoy. This park truly has it all from campgrounds, cottages, hiking trails, and a swimming beach to disc golf and traditional golf course.

Richard B. Russell Lake offers cold and warm water fisheries and is considered one of the best fishing lakes in the area, with bass fishing being the most popular among locals.

Athens is home to The State Botanical Garden of Georgia. The Garden contains eleven botanical and horticultural collections spanning 313 acres.

Nearby Richard B. Russel Lake is the Georgia Gladstones. Similar to Stonehenge, this monument was erected in 1980 by anonymous authors.
