Long Lake was once three smaller glacial lakes until Long Lake Dam was built in 1883 to join them into one. Combining the three lakes created 99 miles of shoreline, 3,290 acres, and an average depth of 26 feet.

Long Lake is considered the Walleye Capital of Wisconsin and offers an expanded variety of fish besides Walleye. Northern pike, largemouth and smallmouth bass, bluegill, and crappie are some of the fish that populate the lake.
