About Lake Superior
Visit Four Places on One Lake

Sprawling throughout not only Wisconsin but also Minnesota, Michigan, and Ontario, Canada is Lake Superior.

The largest of the five Great Lakes, Lake Superior got its name from the Ojibwe Native American term for "big water". Later, French explorers dubbed the lake "lake le superiuer" or "upper lake."

Lake Superior was once used for mining, fur trading and shipping and is now a lively tourism and living designation.

Largest Freshwater Lake

Flowing through state and country borders Lake Superior spans across 20,288,00 acres and can hold as much water as as the remaining three lakes combined. At its deepest point, Lake Superior reaches 1,332 feet.

With striking views of the Porcupine Mountains lining the lake's 2,726-mile long shoreline, there is much to be seen on the largest freshwater lake in the world.
