Fawn Lake is in the western part of the state, across the inlets from Tacoma. It is to the northwest of Olympia. The lake is moderately sized and contains a western and eastern section separated by a small land strip.

The lake is high in water access, located in the middle of a peninsula; multiple inlets are nearby. Fawn Lake is to the north of Little Skookum Inlet and south of Hammersley Inlet and Oakland Bay.

There are also numerous beaches within the vicinity of the lake. Surrounded by the inlets, to the east are beaches such as Edgewater, Gravelly, Elizan, and Carlyon.

Water and Nature

For those who are into the outdoors and love to take in nature, Fawn Lake provides plenty of recreational activities within its proximity.

Anglers can frequently be found on Fawn Lake’s water and shores. Fish known to be caught on the lake include largemouth bass and perch. Little Skookum Inlet provides additional fishing spots for those looking to move farther away from the lake for the day. Fish caught in the inlet include chum salmon, largemouth bass, and perch.

Nature preserves, and parks are also scattered throughout the area surrounding the lake. Those looking to stay active and take in nature can go to venues such as Kennedy Creek Natural Area Preserve or the Skookum Inlet Natural Area Preserve.

Both spots provide plenty of trails to hike, animals to see, and view to take in. For example, Kennedy Creek is known as a popular venue to see spawning salmon in the fall. The creek is also known for its various spots for bird watching along the trails.

Those looking for more sporting activities can head southwest to the Salish Cliffs Golf Club.
