Simpson Lake

Cass County, Texas

Simpson Lake is a middle-sized, 204-acre lake just five miles from Lake O’ the Pines, Texas. It is located near Avinger, and Longview is under 50 miles away.

The lake is around an hour from East Texas Regional Airport and 40 minutes from St. Micheal Hospital. Avinger High School is 13 minutes away from the lake, and there are other public schools in the area.

Eagle Landing

Simpson Lake was owned by a man named Mike Simpson. In the 1980s, the houses around the lake were renamed Eagle Landing after the prominent population of bald eagles that used to inhabit the lake.

The Eagle Landing community hosts dinners and activities throughout the year such as a 4th of July celebration, Oktoberfest, Mardi Gras, and Christmas parties.

On the Water Fun

Simpson Lake contains a variety of fish including largemouth bass, striped bass, hybrid bass, Florida bass, crappie, and channel catfish, making it a angler’s paradise. The water is accessible by the boat launch.

Lakeside residents can also enjoy the vast array of birds and wildlife on and close to the lake. Hawks, egrets, great blue heron, hummingbirds, ducks, and geese are prominent.

Lake O’ the Pines

Lake O’ the Pines is a major destination for lake-loving Texans. Commonly revered as “The Most Beautiful Lake in All of East Texas,” those who enjoy lake activities travel here for boating, water skiing, sailing, paddle boarding, and kayaking.

Anglers on Lake O’ the Pines can expect to catch largemouth bass, spotted bass, catfish, white bass, crappie, sunfish, and chain pickerel.

Since 2019, Lake O’ the Pines has been the home of the Annual Jay Cox Memorial Bass Tournament and the Annual Kids Fishing Tournament has been a well-known attraction on the lake.
