About Possum Kingdom Lake

One of Texas’s Premier Lakes

Possum Kingdom Lake, often called PK Lake or “The Great Lake of Texas,” spans more than 19,000 acres and over 300 miles of shoreline, mostly in Palo Pinto County. Additionally, the water depth at the dam is 100’. It features towering cliffs, sandy beaches, and quiet coves, making it one of the most desirable lake home locations in North Texas.

Possum Kingdom Lake Fun

Possum Kingdom Lake features several camping grounds, cabins, boat rentals, and more. Hikers and bikers will appreciate the 16 miles of trails and 12 trailheads while exploring the Palo Pinto Mountains region.

Kayaking and canoeing are also popular on Possum Kingdom Lake. Locals frequently paddle below the dam along the John Graves Scenic Riverway and down the Brazos River. Furthermore, golfers will enjoy The Cliffs Resort golf course, which pairs championship golf with panoramic views of Possum Kingdom Lake.

The lake is known as a sporting paradise, highlighted by Hell’s Gate, two 90-foot cliffs that serve as a major boating hub, and hosted the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series from 2014 to 2018. One side, called Devil’s Island, features a rock formation that resembles an Indian face when exiting Hell’s Gate Cove.

All About Community
