About Highway Lake A

Convenient to Hallsville and Longview

The Highway Lakes are located right off of US-80 just three miles west of Hallsville. This small Texas town features restaurants, shops, schools, salons, banks, and more.

Longview is just eight miles west of the lakes. Regarded as one of the best places to live in Texas, the city features a variety of attractions along with nightlife establishments. The East Texas Airport, Good Shepherd Hospital, and LeTourneau University are some of its major facilities.

Created in the 1920s

In the 1920s, Nathaniel “Nay” Green built Highway Lake A, also known as Green’s Pond. He was a successful businessman and framer with local fame for his peach orchard.

In 1929 Nay built Lake B of 36 acres right behind it. The lakes were the most popular swimming holes in Hallsville. Several years later, Sapp Nursery built the third lake of the series, covering 17 acres.

Kick Back and Relax

The Highway Lakes are perfect for escaping to. The smaller lakes are great spots for fishing, swimming, or kayaking.

The large middle lake is most popular for boating but it welcomes all other activities as well. If you find yourself here at the end of the day, you can birdwatch, catch the sunset, or stargaze.

City Fun

Hallsville hosts the Western Days event each October. The celebration invites food vendors, boutiques, businesses, and crafters to set up a truck or tent at Hallsville City Park.

Several golf courses are located in Longview, including The Challenge at Oak Forest, Wood Hollow Golf Club, Alpine Golf Course, and Pinecrest Country Club.

Longview Mall, Longview World of Wonders, Longview Escape Room, and the Museum of Fine Arts are popular locations in the city.

A Scenic Retreat

The Highway Lakes offer peace and comfort while Hallsville and Longview are a short drive away. The lakes would make a wonderful forever home or weekend escape.
