One of the Largest Lakes in North Texas

Lavon Lake is one of the largest lakes in North Texas, encompassing 21,400-acres and having 121 miles of shoreline.

The Lavon Dam was completed in 1953 to prevent seasonal flooding, but the construction led to land development along the water, and the recreational use flared up.

    Boating, Skiing, Fishing and Hiking

Lake Lavon is a famous recreational lake with over 4 million visitors a year. It has a lot to offer with 16 parks, including 19 4-lane boat ramps, five beaches, 244 picnic sites, six pavilions, and many campsites.

Bring your watercraft or visit Lavon Water Sports that rent party barges, pontoons, ski boats, fishing boats, and wave runners. The lake goers enjoy watersports like jet skiing, water skiing, tubing, kneeboarding, and wakeboarding.

The parks around the lake provide countless walking trails, but the best is the 9-mile Trinity Trail that can be hiked or rode on horseback. Fishers enjoy the variety of fish found at Lavon Lake like black bass, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, white bass, carp, catfish, crappie, gar, and sunfish.

    Nearby Entertainment

The nearby city of Mckinney hosts a selection of events. The Red, White, and Boom Parade on the 4th of July that features music, food, and a firework display is a great way to celebrate the 4th of July.

Krewe of Barkus, a parade to raise awareness for abandoned and abused canines, draws over 4500 spectators to watch the line of dogs dressed in a themed costume.

An event that takes place every last Saturday of the month is Classics on the Square. This event is one for those who love classic cars. Residents bring their classic cars to the square and display them for all to enjoy.
