About Pickwick Lake

The 43,100 acre Pickwick Lake is one of the more unique lakes in the entire South. With its borders spanning across the states of Tennessee, Mississippi, and Alabama, Pickwick Lake provides an accessible vacation spot for visitors throughout the Southeast. The Pickwick Reservoir was completed in 1938 by the Tennessee Valley Authority and stretches some 53 miles creating almost 500 miles of shoreline, eventually ending at Wilson Dam in Alabama.

Known for its many coves and inlets, Pickwick provides visitors with an extensive number of different areas to explore. Only two hours from Memphis, Tennessee and one hour from Jackson, Tennessee and Tupelo, Mississippi, Pickwick Lake continues to be an extremely popular location for many water sports and activities. Boating, water skiing, wakeboarding, tubing, swimming, and just taking in the beautiful scenery are some of the most popular Pickwick Lake pastimes.

Housing many prize-winning largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and catfish, Pickwick Lake is a common stop for many sport fishermen. For those looking for some outdoor fun, the nearby 1,400 acre Pickwick Lake State Park provides a golf course, marina, and a hiking trail. There is also the Pickwick Dam Tailwater Campground near Counce, Tennessee which offers 95 campsites to visitors. If you are a history buff, Shiloh National Military Park is only fifteen miles away and is home to the Shiloh Civil War battlefield, the Shiloh National Cemetery, and the Shiloh Indian Mound.

One of the most unique aspects of Pickwick Lake is that it is the beginning of the famous Tombigbee Waterway. Starting at Pickwick Lake, boaters have an opportunity to travel 234 miles down the Tennessee River to the Mississippi River and eventually to the Gulf of Mexico. This has long been one of the more famous boating routes throughout the United States. With so much to offer, Pickwick Lake continues to remain a popular vacation and tourist stop.

There is a great market for waterfront rental property as well as year-round home sites at Pickwick. This particular body of water continues to offer new and appealing lakefront real estate developments as more and more visitors feel a permanent draw to Pickwick Lake. Whether it is a weekend retreat, second residence, or a home to retire in, the offerings at Pickwick Lake will meet your needs.

Whether you are interested in fishing, hiking, boating around the lake or down the Tombigbee, Pickwick Lake has something for everyone and will continue to be one of the most popular lakes in Tennessee and in this region for years to come.
