      " Six miles west of Morristown, on the Cherokee Reservoir, in the storied Holston River Valley, sits Panther Creek State Park, a 1,444-acre park.

      " Around 1785, settlers from East Tennessee's Watauga Settlement and North Carolina's older Watauga Settlement came to this region. The Cherokee Indians had previously been the dominant Native American group in the region.

      Nature and Wildlif

      " There are 17 separate hiking paths in the park, totaling more than 30 miles of varied terrain. The Point Lookout Trail, which rises 1,460 feet above sea level, offers hikers breathtaking vistas of Cherokee Lake and the Cumberland Mountains. Additionally, there are paths for mountain biking that span more than 15 miles and range in difficulty.

      " Catchings of bass, crappie, bluegill, catfish, rockfish, and bream are available all year long in Cherokee Lake. Up to 20-pound rockfish are frequently caught. Commercial marinas close by offer boat launches, boat rentals, and a bait shop for all your fishing and picnic needs.

      " Miles of equestrian riding routes may be found at Panther Creek, and more are being built. The Panther Creek Road parking space is required for horse trailers.
