Nestled in between Tennessee's rolling green hills, Norris Lake promises turquoise waters and year round fun for the whole family.
Not only is this lake a desirable vacation spot for thousands of families and visitors each year, but it has a rich history dating back to 1911. This is the year the location that would become Norris Dam (then named "Cove Creek Site") was chosen due to its natural landscape.
The goal of the dam was to bring stability to the area, as flooding was uncontrollable and unpredictable, as well as provide a substantial power source for the area. Just three short years later on March 4th, 1936, the dam was complete.
It was named after Nebraska Senator, George Norris who had been a long time supporter of the Tennessee Valley Authority. By 1937, the Norris Reservoir was filled completely, creating the largest reservoir on a tributary of the Tennessee River.
To this day, the dam delivers a maximum of 131,400 kilowatts of energy delivery to not only the Tennessee Valley, but to the five counties surrounding Norris Lake.
Located just off of 1-17 in east Tennessee, Norris Lake hosts 33,840 acres of water surface and 809 miles of winding shoreline. It is a scenic escape for thousands of vacationers and permanent owners.
The area boasts several activities to keep everyone in the family entertained. From water sports like swimming, boating, wakeboarding, kayaking, canoeing, tubing, and water skiing to land bound happenings such as incredible hiking trails (with breathtaking views), horse back riding, and camping, things are never dull.
Norris Lake is especially known for being one of the greatest areas for fishing in the region! No matter if you seek beautiful views to relax, or days jam packed with adventure, you will always find what you are looking for with every visit.
