Known to most as Kerr Lake, Robert S. Kerr Reservoir is located on the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System, a short distance from Sallisaw, Oklahoma.
Located in the Cookson Hills on the Arkansas River, Kerr Lake was completed in 1970 by the US Army Corps of Engineers. Formed by tributary valleys with 250 miles of rugged shoreline, the lake is a nestled spot for water and land fun. At an average depth of 12 feet and spanning an area of 43,800 acres, there is plenty of space for growth and development.
Five public park areas allow for plenty of space for visitors. Each park, called "Public Use Areas," provides a variety of facilities available year round. The Public Use Areas offer picnic spots, hiking and nature trails, concessions, boat ramps, RV and tent campsites, and swimming beaches.
Kerr Lake has no boating restrictions. The public park and boat ramp are located near the dam and houses facilities available for your convenience.
On either side of the Sequoyah Wildlife Refuge, the Corps of Engineers maintains over 10,700 acres available for public hunting. Game surrounding the Kerr Lake includes waterfowl, dove, white-tail deer, among others. The water, like other lakes in Oklahoma is known as a "striper hot-spot," however; it's also home to Largemouth Bass, Sunfish, White Crappie, Channel and Flathead Catfish, and Striped and White Bass. Kerr Lake currently holds the state record for Walleye and Sauger.
