    Spanning 2,880 acres, Santeetlah Lake has plenty of room for new residents to come and settle down.

    Scenic views are guaranteed since about 80% of the 76-mile shoreline is in the Nantahala National Forest, in the shadows of the Great Smoky Mountains.

    Popular activities on the water include boating, canoeing, kayaking, water skiing, wakeboarding, tubing, rafting, swimming, fishing, and relaxing on the shoreline. Anglers will find smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, walleye, crappie, bream, and lake trout.

    The Town of Lake Santeetlah occupies a peninsula in the lake with about 200 homes but only 50 permanent residents. Santeetlah Marina is the only full-service marina on a lake and is located near the town.

    Also near the town is Cheoah Point Recreation Area, which has swimming, camping, picnic facilities, toilets (no showers), a beach area, and a boat ramp.

    There are over 200 miles of hiking trails in the Cheoah District of the Nantahala National Forest, and one can hike about eight miles from Lake Santeetlah to the Appalachian Trail.
