Lake Johnson

Location and Access

Sitting on 150 acres, Lake Johnson is located in Raleigh, North Carolina. Part of Wake County, this is a public recreational lake. Raleigh is home to UNC REX Hospital and Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

On the Water

Lake Johnson is a great place for paddle boarding, kayaking, and canoeing. The Park offers boat rentals for these as well as jon boats and sailboats. There is also access to boating ramps for private non-motorized and non-trailered boats.

Fishing is also available at Lake Johnson. Anglers can cast their lines from the boardwalk, fishing dock, rental boats, and personal paddle boats. Largemouth bass, shellcracker, crappie, bream, catfish, and carp all call these waters home.

Lake Johnson Park also offers a nature preserve, a waterfront center and veranda to view the lake from, hammock posts, wildlife viewing,swimming pools, and both paved and natural trails.

Around Town

Lake Johnson Park is the location of a host of community events and programs. The park offers fishing, first aid, navigation/exploration, and many other educational programs. Most notably is Pullen Park, which is a wonderful spot for families with young children to spend the day outside. Rental paddle boats, carousel rides, playgrounds, train rides, and more are available at this park.

The capital of North Carolina, Raleigh, also offers a wide variety of things to do. There are a number of gardens, parks, and golf courses to relax and spend time at. You can also visit the North Carolina Museum of Natural Science, State Farmers Market, and Marbles Kids Museum.

Favorite Raleigh restaurants include Big Ed’s City Market Restaurant, Sam Jones BBQ, and Morgan Street Food Hall.
