A Splendor in the Mountains

Fontana Lake is a 29-mile long expanse that covers 11,700 acres. Dense forests and towering mountaintops border its clear, blue waters.

It has around 240 miles of shoreline, and about 90% of that is protected by The Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Nantahala National Forest.

Its dam stands 480-feet tall and is one of the highest in the Rockies.

This multi-mile stretch is perfect for speeding in a powerboat, exploring by kayak, or getting pulled behind the boat on a pair of skis.

Trophy-sized muskie, walleye, and smallmouth bass have been reeled in from Fontana Lake.

The Appalachian Trail crosses right over the Fontana Lake Dam, and the Lakeshore Trail is nearby.
