Lake Chatuge crosses the state border between Georgia and North Carolina, giving residents a chance to explore two states on the water.

On the Georgia side, the water stretches from Young Harris to Hiawassee. Asheville, Knoxville, and Chattanooga form a triangle near the lake for plenty of city access.

Residents have access to the Chatuge Regional Hospital and the Western Carolina Regional Airport. For international travel, the McGhee Tyson Airport isn't far in Tennessee.

Lake Chatuge spans 132 miles of shoreline, perfect for boating, fishing, skiing, swimming, picnicking, and camping.

Anglers can find largemouth bass, spotted bass, hybrid bass, bluegill, and catfish in the sparkling water.

Many public boat ramps offer easy access to all water sports. A swimming beach, playgrounds, and numerous picnic tables are provided at the Towns County Recreational Beach. In addition, many campgrounds are located on the scenic lakeshore, and other campgrounds offer more private settings.

The Hamilton Gardens at Chatuge Lake are a beautiful collection of botanical gardens sitting on 33 acres. It holds the record for the most extensive collection of rhododendrons in the southeast.

Visit Asheville

Asheville is around two hours north of Chatuge Lake. This city, located in the western North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains, is an excellent destination for outdoor adventures, science routes, and cultural experiences for you and your family.

Visitors can take a tour to learn the city's history by trolley or walking. Other options include exploring the shopping scene at the Grove Market or indulging in the culinary creations at Isa's French Bistro or Jettie Rae's Oyster House.
