About Apalachia Lake

Convenient to Murphy and Major Cities

Apalachia Lake is a small but long reservoir that winds through the forested mountains of Western North Carolina. The long, slim body of water runs for nearly 10 miles and features 1,070 acres of water. It is a deep, cool-water lake with an average depth of 100 feet.

Murphy is just east of the reservoir. Its downtown area features several restaurants and a variety of shops. Schools, department stores, grocery outlets, and other establishments are in the city.

Chattanooga and Knoxville are around 100 miles from the lake, and Asheville is 130 miles away if you are looking for major hospitals, an international airport, or a wide variety of attractions.

Simple and Serene

Not many know about Apalachia Lake, but those who claim it is an undiscovered trophy of North Carolina.

With no commercial establishments, a lake is a place of natural beauty and pure isolation. The local restaurants are 40 minutes away from the houses.

Explore Majestic Falls

Apalachia Lake's calm, uncrowded waters are the perfect place for boating, fishing, or swimming. Its many coves and branches create 31 miles of shoreline and leave kayakers and canoers plenty to explore.

Fish such as smallmouth bass, spotted bass, largemouth bass, redbreast sunfish, and white bass populate the pristine waters.

North Shoal Falls is a relatively large waterfall located at the end of the lake's North Shoal Creek Branch. A path off of Morrow Road will bring you to a short hiking trail out to the falls. Shoal Creek Falls is also located on Apalachia Lake; it is 30 feet tall and features multiple rocky layers. Prospect Road or Beavers Branch can reach it.

Explore Chattanooga

Twice named Outside Magazine’s “Best Town Ever,” Chattanooga is a fun adventure for every family member.

The “Scenic City” features attractions like the Tennessee Aquarium, Chattanooga Zoo, Lookout Mountain, Ruby Falls, Creative Discovery Museum, and many more. The Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster is a thrill ride that winds down a wooded hillside. The non-motorized carts allow for a smooth ride for singles and doubles.

Explore Knoxville

Knoxville is bustling with abundant activities and sights for residents and visitors. The Knoxville Zoo is one very popular attraction. Here, guests can see various exotic animals, including red pandas and Malayan tigers.

Another popular attraction is the Star of Knoxville Riverboat, where guests can take a riverboat tour with beautiful sights, enjoy an on-deck dinner, and even host parties.

Explore Asheville

Asheville is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains and is a great destination for outdoor adventures, science routes, and cultural experiences.

Residents and visitors can take a tour to learn the city's history by trolley or walking. Other options are exploring the shopping scene at the Grove Market or indulging in the culinary creations at Isa’s French Bistro or Jettie Rae’s Oyster House.

The most famous tourist attraction in Asheville would be the Biltmore Estate. Explore the acres of gardens by walking, biking, or hiking trails around the estate. There is also a winery and playground available to visitors.

A Beautiful Paradise

Apalachia Lake is an isolated splendor where lake goers have pristine waters and scenic landscapes all to themselves.
