About Silver Lake - Black Brook
    Clinton County, New York

Silver Lake is a stunning body of water in Black Brook, New York within the scenic mountains of the Adirondack Park.

Half of the shoreline is lined with summer residences and the other has been deemed “Forever Wild” by the state, meaning it can’t be sold or developed.

The lake is 40 minutes from Adirondack Health and 45 minutes from the Plattsburgh International Airport. There is a Tops Friendly Market and a Little Supermarket, both local grocers, within 20 minutes.

    Ice Fishing and More!

The lake is popular among ice fishers in the winter months for northern pike, yellow perch, and rock bass.

Additionally, the Silver Lake Mountain Trailhead is right across the street from the lake and leads hikers on a two-mile round trip up the mountain, where they can experience breathtaking views of the water.

Campers can stay at the Douglas Resort and Campground, which is located right on the shoreline.

They can also explore the numerous waterfalls in the area, all within a 30 minutes radius of the lake. These include High Falls Gorge, Jay Falls, and Flume Falls.

    Dining and Drinking

Twenty minutes from Silver Lake is the River Goose Cafe, which is rated a whopping five stars on Google. The cafe serves fine American food and is family-owned.

Across the street from River Goose is 20 Main Tavern, a classic bar with live music and an outdoor area, sure to be entertaining for a night out.

    Lake Champlain

The much larger Lake Champlain is a meager 45-minute drive from Silver Lake. It consists of 314,000 acres and separates the state of New York from Vermont.

Lake Champlain has an incredibly diverse fish community including yellow perch, white perch, bluegill sunfish, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, rock bass, brown bullhead, and northern pike.

Visitors should try to spot the legendary “Champ” Lake monster, which was sighted in 1609 by Samuel de Champlain, for which the lake is named. The monster is allegedly eight to 10 feet long and has 2.5-foot jaws.
