Lyford Pond sits at an elevation of 247 feet and covers 24 acres. The lake was created around 1792 by a stone wall built by the Canterbury Shakers.

Residents can check out the history of the Shakers at the Canterbury Shaker Village, one of the best shaker preservations, only three miles away.

Only non-fuel boats are allowed on Lyford Pond, so it is naturally a peaceful, pristine area. Kayakers and canoers love taking their boats out to paddle around the calm waters.
