Lake Koocanusa spans 95 miles from the Libby Dam to Cranbrook, Canada.

Just east of the lake, Eureka offers restaurants, shops, and schools. Libby provides the same conveniences along with hotels, small-town casinos, and Cabinet Peaks Medical Center.

Waters Like the Caribbean

Lake Koocanusa is a shade of blue that you would expect to see in the Caribbean. The long, slim reservoir winds through forest-covered mountains.

The lake was created in the early 1970s by the damming of the Kootenai River. The Koocanusa Bridge is its famous landmark; it is the longest and highest in the state, stretching 2,437 feet long and around 270 feet above the water.

Fun on the Water

Residents can enjoy pontoons, jet skis, powerboats, bowriders, and many other watercraft types to tour the waters of Lake Koocanusa.

In the summer, the sun rises at 5 am and sets at 10 pm, so you have all day to spend on the water. Its sandy shores are the perfect place to kick back and relax.

Its crystal-clear waters have made swimming one of its most popular activities.

Anglers come to the lake for Kamloops, rainbow trout, white fish, lingcod, and kokanee salmon.

Abayence Bay Marina is a full-service marina that offers rentals of watercraft and boat slips. It also has a restaurant and outdoor amphitheater where live music and other events are hosted.

Rexford Bench Campground, Tobacco River Campground, Rocky Gorge Campground, and several others are around the lake's shore.
