The Town of Baker and its beautiful lake lie in the open lands of Eastern Montana. Restaurants, bars, shops, schools, grocery markets, and other establishments are in Baker.

Make an hour’s drive to Miles City for various shopping, dining, and nightlife establishments. It also houses the Miles City Airport and Holy Rosary Healthcare.

The largest airport near the lake is Williston Basin International Airport in North Dakota, around three hours away.

A Sparkling Oasis

The people of Baker cherish Lake Baker for its scenic views and variety of activities.

In 1908, railroad crews built the Baker Dam to catch rainwater and flow from local springs. The Milwaukee Railroad used the water to power their steam engines.

Now, the lake is a popular host of boating, fishing, and swimming. It is a reasonably quiet lake but still sees plenty of jet skis, water skiers, and tubers.

Iron Horse Park offers a lake beach, splash pad, covered picnic area, and paved paths.

Time on the lakeshore can be spent bird watching, reading a book, or relaxing in a hammock.

Venture to Miles City to golf at the Miles City Town & Country Club, tour the Tongue River Winery or explore local antique shops.

Pirogue Island State Park features the Yellowstone River, grasslands, and forests with well-maintained hiking trails. There are plenty of shallow spots to wade into the river.
