Mastodon State Historical Park was purchased in 1976 by the state in an attempt to stave off the park’s destruction. Three years later, many different fossils from the Ice Age were found here, including the Mastodon, as indicated by the park’s name. This is a must-see park in Jefferson County.

Crystal City Underground offers kayak tours through the caverns of a submerged 150-acre lake and is an incredibly unique experience.
