Recreational Lake South of Detroit Lakes

Pelican Lake is in Ottertail County, just a few miles south of Detroit Lakes. It is a great place to raise a family or retire with schools, restaurants, shops, and attractions nearby. Detroit Lakes is also home to a regional airport and Essential Health Hospital.

Picturesque Landscapes

Pelican Lake is a stunning expanse covering 3,925 acres. The lake has an average depth of 24 feet but can be as deep as 55 feet.

A variety of homes, cottages, and vacation rentals overlook its sparkling waters. Visitors can use the public boat launch located on the eastern shore.

Lake All Day

The long stretch of water is traveled by pontoons, speed boats, wave runners, bass boats, and more. Behind the boat, people enjoy tubing, water skiing, and wakeboarding.

Closer to the shore, people enjoy swimming, kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding. Anglers reel in well-sized walleye, northern pike, bluegill, crappie, and largemouth bass.

For the 4th of July and Memorial Day, the lake community puts on a boat parade and hosts many individual barbecues.

Fun in the city of Detroit Lakes goes beyond shopping and dining since the town hosts countless events throughout the year.

Some of its most popular events include WE Fest (a country music festival), Water Carnival, Polar Fest, Street Faire, Light Up in the Lake, and the Festival of Birds.
