Ninemile Lake is a 296-acre lake located in the unorganized territory of Lake No. 1, Minnesota. It is an hour and a half northeast of Duluth, Minnesota, and around 4 hours northeast of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Cook County North Shore Hospital is the closest place for emergency care, 57 minutes north in Grand Marais, Minnesota. The Duluth International Airport is an hour and 47 minutes south in Duluth. The nearest location to grab groceries, gas, and liquor is the Crooked Lake Resort, less than 10 minutes north of the lake.

This lake is one of the more popular fishing destinations in the Finland State Forest management area. Anglers should expect to find walleye, northern pike, black crappie, and yellow perch, among four other known species. Kayakers will love the shape of this lake as well as the three islands to explore! Launch your craft early or in the morning or late in the evening, and explore this remote paradise.

What’s Near Ninemile Lake?

The nearest place to grab a bite to eat is the Trestle Inn Restaurant and Saloon, seven minutes north. Finland State Forest is a more remote and rustic alternative to nearby Tettegouche State Park. There are lots to do at Finland State Park, with over six miles of ATV and dirt bike trails, two miles of hiking trails, and more to explore. Tettegouche State Park is another quintessential stop in the Superior area. High Falls is only a six-minute car ride or an hour’s walk away from the visitors center! This 70-foot waterfall is a great place to relax, dip your toes in the water, or take some scenic pictures. Enjoy an array of water sports and tourist stops on Lake Superior. Fishing is another reason why people flock to superior, with species like trout, salmon, walleye, northern pike, and smallmouth bass are all abundant! The closest place to launch your small craft onto the water is Taconite Harbor, around 30 minutes east.
