    About Lake Superior
    Picturesque Waters in Northeast Minnesota

Minnesota claims nearly 200 miles of Lake Superior shoreline. Its real estate ranges from waterside mansions to wooded cottages. Anywhere you are, you will have the pleasure of picturesque scenery.

On its westernmost shore, Duluth's city is a hub of shopping, dining, entertainment, and attractions. It also houses the Duluth International Airport and St. Luke's Hospital.

Highway 61 runs along the lakeshore and passes through Two Harbors, Silver Bay, and Grand Marais. You will find restaurants, resorts, state parks, golf courses, and more along the path.

    The World's Largest Freshwater Lake

Lake Superior is proudly known as the world's largest freshwater lake. It is 350 miles long, 160 miles wide, and has a surface area of 20,288,000 acres.

Atop its rocky bluffs, you will have seemingly endless views of the water while waves crash below. The waters are slightly calmer at its beaches, where you can lounge, collect rocks, or birdwatch.

Black Beach, also known as Onyx Beach, is a special place along the shore. Its black sands, rocky hillsides, and clearwater coves create a scene unlike any other.

    Explore the Rugged Terrain

Closest to Duluth, Gooseberry Falls State Park sees the most visitors. It features a waterfall, overlooks, and intermediate hiking trails.

Pigeon River High Falls is a must-see; standing 120-foot tall, it is the highest state. It is on the Minnesota-Canada border within Grand Portage State Park.

Split Rock Lighthouse State Park features a 130-foot cliff over Lake Superior. It was built in 1910 and was one of the most-visited lighthouses by 1940.

To see the entire coast, hike the Superior Trail or make the North Shore Scenic Drive.

    Fun in Duluth

Some of Duluth's best attractions are the Spirit Mountain Recreation & Ski Area, Great Lakes Aquarium, Jay Cooke State Park, Lake Superior Zoo, and the North Shore Scenic Railroad.

Its most popular events include Taste of Duluth, City on the Hill Music Fest, City of Duluth 4th Fest, Oktoberfestival, and City of Lights.
