    Charming Lake Towns in Northern Minnesota

    Outing, Emily, and Fifty Lakes are charming Minnesota towns known for clear lakes, prominent forests, and a lively nighttime scene, all within 15 miles of each other.

    The area is home to a fair share of lake resorts and rental cabins, but many people call this picturesque region their home. You will have the convenience of grocery stores, restaurants, shops, repair shops, and more.

    Duluth, Minnesota is around two hours away with more amenities and attractions, including the Duluth International Airport.

    Fun Around Outing

    Roosevelt Lake is the largest lake of Outing; the long, narrow body covers 1,510 acres. The waters are host to all sorts of recreational activities.

    There are restaurants like Pickled Loon Saloon, Channel Bar & Grill, and the Village Inn along the lakeshore. Lawrence, Smokey Hollow, and Blue Lake are located in the city as well.

    Just north of the town, the Washburn Ski Area features well-groomed trails for skiing in the winter and hiking or mountain biking in the summer.

    Opportunities in Emily and Fifty Lakes

    Ruth Lake is the largest water body in Emily, and its blue waters encompass roughly 600 acres. Lakes Emily, Mary, and Dahler follow behind it in size.

    These inviting waters are host to boating, fishing, and swimming all summer long. Stick around for winter for ice fishing, ice skating, snowmobiling, and more.

    Fifty Lakes features beautiful lakes like East Fox Lake, West Fox Lake, and Eagle Lake. If you are looking for a more private, relaxed environment, these lakes are for you.

    Those who enjoy golfing will love the Emily Greens Golf Course and Golden Eagle Golf Club.

    An Off-Roaders Paradise

    Travel just north of the towns, and you will have access to the Land O’ Lakes State Forest, where outdoor recreation is endless. Within the forest, the Moose River ATV trail runs for 26 miles.

    The Emily to Outing Trail makes it easy to jump between towns. Off-roaders travel it on four-wheelers, side by side, and dirt bikes. It is also safe for those who like walking or biking.

    Over 50 other trails in the area and the Moose River Trail are maintained by the Over the Hills Gang ATV Club. The club of over 300 members meets on Saturday mornings in Emily.
