There are larger towns nearby and the largest metropolitan city nearby is Alpena along the eastern coast of Michigan. The closest Commercial Airport is Alpena County Regional Airport which is 33.8 miles away. This airport offers trips to Detroit via Delta Airlines. Once In Detroit, you can take a plane from the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County International Airport to travel across the world. The closest hospital is the Otsego Memorial Hospital which is 35 miles away.

What to do on the lake

The lake is a solid 46 acres which means that boating, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, fishing, and all sorts of other water-based activities are available. Even more exciting is that the lake is actually a part of Crooked Creek which gives a new dimension of the area to explore. Fishing fans can expect to find walleye and black crappie.

What Lies Beyond the water

Crooked Lake and the surrounding area give a lot of opportunities to experience something unique to newcomers. A good example is Susan’s Roadside dinner which has a log cabin aesthetic on the outside and a classic dinner feel on the inside. The town also features numerous parks for outdoor entertainment and there is even a landmark that has a realistic-looking elk inside of a display that claims Atlanta is the elk capital of Michigan.

Visit Alpena

While it is small, Alpena has a lot to offer. While there, see historical landmarks like the decorative wall of fish in downtown Alpena. There is also the charming red Alpena lighthouse which stands triumphantly in Thunder Bay. Other locations that offer an insight into the history of the area are the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Museum with its gorgeous displays of boats and interactive exhibits, and the Besser Museum of Northeast Michigan which features several exhibits about the wildlife of the region. Speaking of wildlife, there is also the Alpen Wildlife Sanctuary which has a variety of parks, a beautiful classic style wooden bridge, and a kayak launch. The downtown area of Alpena features numerous restaurants, bars, and grills for when you want a nice time out on the town, and the eastern side features unique and familiar shopping centers for all of your shopping needs.
