About Lake Charlevoix

Located in northern Michigan, in Charlevoix County with 17, 200 averaged acres, Lake Charlevoix is the ultimate destination for summer and winter fun! Lake Charlevoix is Michigan's third largest lake and has been called "Americas 2nd Best Lake" by "USA Today". Activities on the lake include swimming, boating, fishing, and water skiing. Named after Pierre Francois Xavier de Charlevoix, a French explorer who traveled The Great Lakes. Prior to European colonization the area was inhabited by the "Odawa" and the "Ojibwe" natives. The lake was initially settled by fisherman in the early 1850's, which was then called Pine Lake until 1869.
