Hubbard is situated near several hospitals and medical facilities, including Ascension St. Joseph Hospital (a 37-minute drive) and MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena (a 40-minute drive).

The lake is also convenient to Harrisville, which is just under 30 miles away and only 17 miles from Lake Huron.

The lake is a popular destination for summer angling as well as winter ice fishing. It is well stocked with bass, yellow perch, northern pike, tiger muskie, trout, and walleye. Visitors will also enjoy boating, swimming, and watersports.
