Glen Lake is a 4,871-acre lake with many small communities dotting its seventeen miles of shoreline, including Glen Arbor, Glen Haven, and Burdickville. It is nestled in the northwestern portion of the state, sitting around 25 miles west of Traverse City. The closest location for emergency care is the Munson Medical Center, 24 miles away. The Cherry Capital Airport is 29 miles east.

Glen Lake is split between two bodies of water, Big and Little Glen Lake. They are connected by a channel at the M-22 bridge known as The Narrows. Big Glen is the larger of the two, while Little Glen sits at 1,415-acres. The water quality here is some of the clearest in Michigan, with visibility peaking at nearly 30 feet. This is because of the sandy topography in the surrounding area. There is a laundry list of activities available here, such as waterskiing, diving, kayaking, swimming, or fishing. Multiple parks are scattered around the lake for those who may not have beach frontage property, along with a DNR boat launch.
