About Brushy Lake

Along the Mississippi River

Brushy Lake is located in the northeast region of Louisiana in Tensas Parish. It is four miles from St. Joseph, Louisiana, and just minutes from State Route 606. Its convenient location is a big draw for many residents because it offers a private environment without ever being too far from major cities.

Bushy Lake is connected to Lake Bruin and encompasses a small portion of shallow waters close to the Mississippi state border.

Lake Bruin

Lake Bruin is a part of the 3,000 acres Lake Bruin State Park that helps conserve the lake and its surrounding wildlife. This lake has a unique oxbow shape that was once a part of the Mississippi River until it was cut off by eroding sediment.

Lake Bruin has a long-held reputation for great fishing and waterskiing. Boating, swimming, camping, and picnicking are also thoroughly enjoyed.

The lake is indeed known for its excellent bass fishing, which is why it is one of the eight stops along the Louisiana Bass Trail. Anglers can also hook crappie and bluegill.

Facilities include a boat launch, boat shed, covered pavilion, bathhouse, and three fishing piers. There are also 36 campsites with water and electrical hookup.

Drive to Baton Rouge

The lovely city of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is only about a two-hour drive from Brushy Lake.

One of the more exciting attractions is Louisiana’s Old State Capitol building. It now acts as a museum, but its most compelling feature is its castle-like appearance. The Capitol Building was built to look like, and function like a castle and has led some locals to call it the Louisiana Castle. Of course, you can still visit the current Louisiana State Capitol that has a beautiful viewing deck.

There are also plenty of museums, nature centers, a water park, and places to enjoy dinner and drinks.

Live on Louisiana’s Most Unique Lake

Whether you are looking to buy a family home, a full-time retirement residence, or a vacation rental, Brushy Lake is an excellent choice.
