About Calcasieu Lake

On the Shores of the Gulf of Mexico

Also known as Big Lake to locals, Calcasieu Lake is a massive body of water located in Cameron Parish, Louisiana. It covers an area of almost 50,000 acres and features 80 miles of shoreline.

Calcasieu Lake is located within a 30 minutes drive to the famous Lake Charles township. For beachgoers, this lake is only minutes from the Gulf of Mexico. Houston is also about an hour's drive from the waterfront.

A Fishing Hub

Calcasieu Lake isn't your usual fishing destination. The water is mostly a salt lake, with water streaming directly from the Gulf of Mexico. This makes the aquatic life found in this lake a variety of salt-life species, including red drum, spotted sea trout, flounder, and different shrimp species. Anglers have commonly reported catching speckled trout that are seven pounds or more.

Boating and More

Given Calcasieu Lake's gigantic size, it is perfect for boating. All types of watercraft are permitted on this lake. Watersports such as water skiing, wakeboarding, canoeing, and kayaking are also popular activities to be enjoyed on this lake. You can even take a swim in the warm water if you are looking to relax.

Visit Houston, Texas

There is plenty of fun to be had while visiting Houston. For an educational experience, visit the Museum of Natural Science, Children's Museum, Space Center Houston, the Downtown Aquarium, or the Museum of Fine Arts. Houston, we do not have a problem with all the fun in this city!

Don't forget to take a walk in the recently renovated, 11.78-acre public park right in the city.

If you need a refreshing beverage, stop by the Saint Arnold Brewing Company, Houston's oldest craft brewery. The brewery does everything from brewing and filtering the beer to kegging and bottling it.
