    Between Two States

    Lake Oliver is a 2,150-acre lake between Columbus, Georgia, and Phenix City, Alabama, on the fall line of the Chattahoochee River.

    The Columbus Airport is under 15 miles away, and the Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital is under 10 miles away. Atlanta is a little over 100 miles away, full of big-city amenities and attractions for a day trip.

    Fun on the Lake

    Public access to the lake is limited to one marina owned by the city of Columbus. It’s densely settled on both the Georgia and Alabama sides. There are several private accesses.

    Anglers on the lake can expect to catch largemouth bass, shoal bass, channel catfish, black crappie, bluegill, or warmouth, though sunfish are the most popular.

    Green Island Hills is an upscale development located on the lake at the mouth of Standing Boy Creek.

    The city of Columbus has many different tourist attractions including the National Infantry Museum near Fort Benning. The museum champions the history of the United States Army from the Revolutionary War to the conflict in the Middle East, exhibiting artifacts from all eras of American wartime history.

    The Chattahoochee Riverwalk is a 15 miles linear park that runs from Lake Oliver to the Infantry Museum. The trail offers a one-of-a-kind geotour including 31 challenge geocaches with collector game pieces.

    The Coca-Cola Space Science Center is located in Columbus and entails the WestRock Observatory, Georgia’s premier public observatory. It also includes over 30 portable telescopes as well as a planetarium system and a remotely controllable solar observatory.
