Other parks on the lake include a white-sand beach, swimming, and a scenic overlook. While the surrounding area is quite mountainous, the camping area is level and easily accessed.
The 32-acre park is near the Chattahoochee National Forest and the Appalachian Trail.
Home to the Lake Burton Fish Hatchery, where visitors can learn about the raising of trout, Lake Burton is home to a impressive number of fish species, including spotted, largemouth and white bass, black crappie, white catfish, walleye, yellow perch, bluegill, redear sunfish, as well as brown and rainbow trout.
Lake Burton holds the state record for a spotted bass catch at 8 pounds, 2 ounces.
The lake has two public boat ramps.
On the Saturday night before Independence Day, an impressive fireworks display is set off from Billy Goat Island, on the lake's south side. Hundreds view the show, set against the backdrop of the surrounding mountains, from boats surrounding the island.
September brings the Moonshine Memories event at the state park, followed by Bluegrass in the Park in October.
