    About Lake Blackshear
A Few Minutes From Interstate 75

Lake Blackshear occupies about 8,700 acres and 97 miles of shoreline. It has a footing in five different counties: Crisp County, Dooly County, Lee County, Sumter County, and Worth County in Georgia. It is also just two hours and 30 minutes from Atlanta, Georgia. Atlanta International Airport and Emory St. Joseph Hospital are both available in Atlanta.

    Fun in the Sun

Water activities of all types are regularly enjoyed at Lake Blackshear. For boaters, everything from gas boats to kayaks is allowed; however, be careful around the designated no-wake zones. There are also a number of public access boat ramps and refueling areas located around the lake.

Lake Blackshear is also a good place for anglers. Here they can find a variety of species of bass, sunfish, crappie, perch, and catfish. Anglers can fish from shore, on boats, or off of the various piers that are around the lake.

An interesting feature of Lake Blackshear is the old cypress stumps left behind from the construction of the nearby dam. These are great spots for fishing but pose a potential threat to boaters.

    Out on the Town

At Lake Blackshear is Georgia Veterans State Park. It is in Cordele, Georgia, which is in the Crisp County portion of Lake Blackshear. Here, guests can visit the Military Museum, take the SAM Shortline Excursion Train tours, and go to the archery/rifle range, lake resort, beach, or campsites around the park.

There are plenty of places to eat around Lake Blackshear. Popular places to eat include Cypress Grill, Cordelia’s Restaurant, and Buoy’s on Blackshear.

If you want a break from the lake, Atlanta is close enough for a trip. There you go to the World of Coca-Cola Museum, Botanical Gardens, and Georgia Aquarium. Local eateries include Atlanta Breakfast Club, Poor Calvin’s, and Phew’s Pies.

    The Ideal Lake Experience

Lake Blackshear has something for everyone. From boaters and anglers to those who want to lounge and relax, Lake Blackshear is the perfect match for everyone!
