About Inks Lake

Located in Hill County, Texas

Inks Lake is part of the Highland Falls chain located in Central Texas. It is preceded by Lake Buchanan to the north and Lake Lyndon B Johnson to the south.

Located just 10 miles west of Burnet, the lake is a short drive from restaurants, grocery stores, shops, and schools.

Austin is approximately an hour’s drive southeast, which includes the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and St. David’s North Austin Hospital.

Swimming, Diving, Kayaking, and More

Inks Dam was completed in 1938 on the Colorado River. The much larger Buchanan Dam was finished at the same time, just three miles upstream.

Approximately 33% of the eastern shore is part of Inks Lake State Park, including Devil's Waterhole, known for cliff diving and its scenic waterfalls upstream. The area can also be enjoyed for scuba diving.

The park also offers campsites, hiking trails, two fishing piers, paddleboat rentals, and pavilions. Whether you have a boat, jet ski, kayak, canoe, or float, you are set for a day on Inks Lake.

Fun for Everyone

The Lake Buchanan Beach and Picnic Area can be the perfect spot for swimming, sunning, or having a lunch break.

The best mountain biking park in the state is just a short drive away. Spider Mountain Bike Park is the only park in Texas that has a chairlift. You and your bike can ride to the top of the mountain and have a variety of trails to choose from.

Fall Creek Vineyards, Torr Na Lochs Vineyard, and Wedding Oak Winery are also nearby for the wine enthusiasts.

Camp Longhorn is a wonderful opportunity for kids to enjoy the lake fun during the summer months. They offer two- or three-week options that encourage kids to get outdoors, make friends, and create self-confidence.

Inks Lake is Perfect For You

At Inks Lake, the opportunities are endless. It is very similar to the surrounding Highland Falls lakes but perfect for those looking for something on a smaller scale!
